About The Position

James River Hospice is hiring a dedicated Hospice On-Call RN to support hospice and home health patients in the Richmond, VA area. This after-hours role involves providing symptom management, patient assessments, and coordinating with the care team to ensure timely, high-quality support in the home setting. Schedule: 7 on / 7 off. Weekdays 5 pm – 8 am; Saturday & Sunday 8 am – 8 pm. What’s in it for YOU? Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • At least one year of hospice experience is required.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable car available for use during work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to on-call needs by assessing patients, managing symptoms, and helping during urgent situations.
  • Completes initial and follow-up assessments to determine patient and family needs and adjusts care plans to focus on comfort and quality of life.
  • Works closely with physicians and the care team and may oversee LPNs and hospice aides.
  • Provides hands-on care focused on pain and symptom relief while offering support to patients and families, and helps with other duties as needed to support patient care.
