About The Position

Provides direct patient care and education to the oncology outpatient population, including GYN Chemo infusion center. Delivers specialized patient care and education for individuals receiving chemo treatment in a medical office setting, in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements

• A diploma, certification or degree is not required.
• Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
• Basic Life Support - American Red Cross
• Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
• Registered Nurse - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
• Clinical Specialty (2 Years)
• Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
• Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care.
• Participates in quality improvement activities, to ensure exceptional clinical outcomes.

• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of chemotherapy drugs, supportive therapy, and execution of clinical trial orders for our patients.
• Provides accurate counsel and education to patients and/or family at an appropriate level of understanding for the patient and/or family member regarding their disease process and symptom management.
• Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings, skills day.
• Participates in continued professional development, attending educational programs, in-services, and meetings as needed.
• Participates in the committee and/or in special projects as assigned by management.
• Offers constructive solutions to clinical challenges and process improvement initiatives within the center.
• Attends required continuing education classes and completes annual competency requirements.
• Communicates effectively using positive verbal and nonverbal communication skills with all members of the health care community to ensure optimal patient outcomes and altering plan of care as needed.
• Follows AIDET (acknowledge-introduce-duration-explanation-thank you) communication with patient and family members.

• Works with clinical nurse coordinators and physicians on development and selection of appropriate patient interventions.
