About The Position

The MUSC Transplant Team is seeking a dedicated and experienced Kidney Transplant RN Coordinator to join our multidisciplinary team. This critical role provides coordination of care for kidney transplant patients throughout the continuum – from pre-transplant evaluation, listing, and education through post-transplant follow-up. The RN Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for patients, families, physicians, and the broader healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in South Carolina
  • BSN
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1 year in transplant, critical care, nephrology, or related field preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required and three years related nursing experience.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Some positions require certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in solid organ transplant coordination.
  • CCTC (Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator) or willingness to obtain within 2 years.
  • Knowledge of CMS/UNOS regulations and transplant eligibility criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all phases of the kidney transplant process, including evaluation, listing, waitlist management, transplantation, and post-operative care.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the transplant team to ensure seamless, compassionate, and timely care.
  • Perform nursing assessments and facilitate diagnostic testing, patient education, and referrals as needed.
  • Monitor patient status and laboratory values, ensuring compliance with transplant protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation in accordance with CMS, OPTN, and hospital policies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
