Mercy Hospital’s 8M Medical Oncology & Hospice Unit focuses on meeting a patient’s physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs to improve their quality of life and support their loved ones. 8M caregivers provide care to oncology and hospice patients with cancer diagnoses, chest pain, shortness of breath, COPD, and abdominal pain. Additionally, this unit provides patients with end-of-life care. As an RN on this team, you will have the chance to enhance each patient’s experience, while they are going through a challenging time. Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
One-year of current acute care RN experience OR licensed military RN experience

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families.
Obtain a cancer specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the timeframe of the facilities accreditation cycle.
RNs on units where chemotherapy is administered: complete ONS Chemo/Bio course within two years of employment.
