About The Position

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. Job Summary: Orientates to providing nursing care, including triage, treatment and discharge care for the Emergency Department patients, from newborns to geriatrics. This position is represented by CNA.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS OR HS-PALS OR RQIPALS) certification: Required within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required within 6 months of hire or transfer: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes triage assessment on all patients and notifies the Emergency MD of all abnormal signs, symptoms and vital signs 100% the time.
  • Reviews patient orders with appropriate completion and documentation of completion of patient orders in a timely manner 95% of the time.
  • Implements and/or assists others to implement the planned teaching strategies, discharge instructions 90% of the time. Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies 100% of the time.
  • Anticipates necessary equipment when diagnosis indicates special measures will be needed 90% of the time. Demonstrates knowledge in Code Blue and Code Yellow procedures 100%. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each pt in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
  • Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient's response to medications, treatments & procedures. Consistently performs necessary unit specific safety & quality control checks (i.e. VO/TO Read Back, crash cart checks, urine QC, refrig logs & outdate checks). Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of EMTALA regulations. Assessed by review of documents and verbal communication of regulations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
