Requirements

• A High School Diploma or its equivalent
• Four (4) years of job related field -AND- One (1) year of supervisory experience -OR- A two (2) year associate's degree AND two (2) years of job related experience -OR- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of job related experience
• The ability to acquire a Class "B" CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months at the time of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County!
• A valid Florida Driver License at the time of hire
• Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years

Responsibilities

• Direct and schedule unit work activities
• Establishe and monitor employee performance standards
• Establish proper safety and maintenance of traffic standards and monitors to ensure compliance with county/state and OSHA regulations
• Utilize computerized programs for scheduling and time management
• Maintain, review and summarize daily work activity logs
• Assist with establishing workload priorities to meet deadlines
• Assist with monitoring, analyzing/assessing effectiveness and efficiency of all aspects of work performed
• Interface with other business units and officials
• Instruct crews in proper and safe utilization of equipment
• Coordinate the use of external resources and vendors
• Coordinate and ensure appropriate supply of work materials; tracks and maintains inventories
• Participate in the hiring process, handle employee relations issues, prepare and conduct employee performance reviews, ensure training and development of assigned staff
• Participate in staffing and business planning efforts.
• Provide input and assists with work unit budget, prepares and presents activity reports and technical information, and maintains records and vital operations information
• Provide support to other areas and supervision as required, interacts with citizens and clients
• Assign work to crews during emergency operations
