Manufacture strip material from ingots, casted strip, or modifying material from stock.
Requirements
Must be able to work well with others and be able to follow departmental rules.
Must be able to perform duties without external distraction, such as mobile phones and personal electronic devices.
Must be able to work with micrometer, digital or mechanical, sensing thickness with .0001” accuracy.
Be able to lift materials up to 50 lbs. Weight by hand and heavier using small lifting equipment.
Safety conscious and able to assess risks with strong mechanical aptitude and solid mathematical skills
Desire to use hands and learn new machinery and tooling
Willingness to work on weekends when needed
Training may be acquired on the job.
Use of inspection tools (micrometer, caliper, microscope, shadowgraph, etc.).
Equipment safety training.
Basic computer skills required. Must be able to make computer transactions into the ERP system.
Responsibilities
Maintain a clean and safe environment by following 6S principles.
Operate rolling mills to reduce strip metal to specified thickness and physical properties, often holding to very fine tolerances approaching the ultimate of the mill's capability.
Positions material in rolling mill, adjust rolls and guides according to size and dimensions.
Establish general processing techniques for new materials. Adjust controls to regulate flow of lubricant, machine speed, machine pressure, etc.
Operate slitters (includes setting). Observe setup and gages and measurement devices to assure the processing of quality material.
Responsible for training on and running all equipment and assisting in all functions of the Rolling Department.
Visual inspection for surface defects.
Interpret and follow shop work orders.
Ability to take on multiple work assignments.
Timely completion of work assignments.
Work with OPEX Engineering staff on efficiency improvement projects, etc.
Assist area manager with any 6S initiatives and process improvement projects.
Maintaining each machine in a “model clean” state by performing regular “Type A” cleans, as expected by procedure/work instruction.
Maintaining the surface of the machine’s Rolls, cleaning/replacing them as necessary.
Maintaining/staging in-process work material in a proper environment preventing contamination and/or damage.
