We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Route Supervisor to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 375 Industrial Road in Watsonville and limited job-related travel may be required. GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Route Supervisor to provide support to one or more facilities. Through the guidance and direction of the Operation Manager, the Route Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operation of drivers as well as dispatching and routing tasks to ensure effective and efficient servicing of customers while meeting company expectations. The Route Supervisor maintains a safe and orderly workplace and supervises team members to ensure timeliness and accuracy in records pertaining to collection and disposal services offered.

  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with customers, city officials, and all levels of staff.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience, preferably in waste management or transportation.
  • Supervisory or lead experience in a union or high-volume operational environment.
  • Valid Class C; Commercial driver’s license with medical certificate preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn company-specific software.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in English and/or Spanish.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, climbing in and out of vehicles.
  • Mix of fieldwork and office work; exposure to outdoor weather, noise, and odors.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and adjust daily routes for drivers to ensure timely completion of all services.
  • Dispatch drivers to assist others as needed and reassign work to cover absences or delays.
  • Monitor field work to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and proper use of equipment.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints promptly, working to resolve issues on the first contact.
  • Conduct on-site visits when needed to address service concerns or safety issues.
  • Enforce all safety programs, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, field inspections, and audits.
  • Lead root cause investigations for all incidents, including vehicle accidents, injuries, and property damage.
  • Manage progressive discipline for safety and policy violations.
  • Maintain records in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Onboard new drivers, ensuring they have tools, training, and feedback for success.
  • Provide consistent coaching, mentoring, and skill development.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and set clear expectations for improvement when needed.
  • Manage work orders for cart/bin deliveries, track inventory, and facilitate new service rollouts.
  • Review and audit route documentation (e.g., DVIRs, driver time records, service tickets).
  • Support the Operations Manager and General Manager with administrative tasks and operational reporting.
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve processes, reduce costs, and achieve operational goals.
  • Respond to and coordinate cleanup of hydraulic or other operational spills.
  • Ensure proper reporting and follow-up on environmental or safety hazards.
