About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, responsibilities of the part-time Safety and Security Officer will include providing unparalleled service, protection, and safety to our School assets while patrolling all areas of our idyllic forty-five-acre campus reasonably accommodating the open, trusting, and friendly culture of the School. Responsibilities overview: Patrol all areas on campus to maintain visibility; Observe all areas on campus for possible irregular or unusual activity or conditions that may create safety hazards or security concerns; Provide assistance and collaboration on any safety and security related accidents and incidents; Serve as a first responder for campus emergencies; Monitor and instruct students, employees, and visitors on proper lawful and safe campus or facility behavior and conduct; Warn violators of rule infractions, such as smoking in an authoritative, but professional friendly manner; Assist with safety, security, crowd control, and parking challenges during special events; Conduct building security assessments for all areas on campus to ensure doors, windows, equipment, and School vehicles are properly secure; Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, which may be altered or redesigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Law enforcement or related experience a plus
  • Ability to act quickly, efficiently, and calmly in stressful situations
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to understand and deal effectively with students, employees, and visitors
  • Commitment to good judgment, tact, sensitivity, and discretion
  • Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Capability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for varying amounts of time during the shift
  • Flexibility to occasionally work varying hours during special events, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • A collaborative, trust-based work style

  • Valid driver's license
  • Required passage of State of New Jersey Criminal Background check
