Position Summary: The Safety Coordinator supports and advances OrthoNebraska's safety, emergency management, life safety, and regulatory compliance programs across hospital and clinic locations. This role conducts safety rounds, coordinates emergency preparedness activities, supports construction and infection control risk assessments, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards. This role works collaboratively with multiple departments as well as external agencies and community partners to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, team members, physicians, and vendors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent - required
  • Valid driver's license - required
  • 30 Hour (OSHA) Occupational Safety and Health Administration- required within one year of hire
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - required within one year of hire
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Healthcare (Hospital) Safety and Emergency Management required.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA, EPA, CMS, NFPA, DOT, and FDA standards.
  • Experience with hazardous materials and waste management, and life safety such as implementing systems, codes, to protect people, property, and the facility.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to establish professional relationships with leadership, staff, physicians, vendors, and community partners.
  • Must be able to pass background check.
  • We also conduct pre-employment physical and drug testing.
  • Any job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical with a drug screen, background check and obtaining active licensures per job requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, safety, emergency management, engineering, or related field - preferred
  • Construction experience preferred to ensure the delivery of effective construction training, conducting inspections, identifying hazards, and assessing risks.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor hospital and clinic safety programs, including emergency management, life safety, and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct routine safety, hazardous surveillance, and construction-related rounds.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills, disaster exercises, and after-action reporting.
  • Complete Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) and Pre-Construction Risk Assessments (PCRA).
  • Maintain safety documentation, dashboards, and reports to support accreditation and regulatory readiness.
  • Respond to safety concerns, incidents, and emergency events, including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation. ?
  • Collaborate with managers and leadership to identify risks.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to support organizational priorities by partnering with departments such as Quality, Compliance, and other operational teams on current and future initiatives, projects, and process‑improvement efforts.
  • Support staff safety education and training initiatives.
  • Participate in regulatory surveys and inspections (Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, CMS, etc.).
  • Create, update, and enforce clear safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPS) and emergency response plans tailored to the workplace.
  • Active involvement in community wide meetings (OMHCC) Omaha Metropolitan Healthcare Coalition Committee and the National Safety Council (NSC).
  • This role maintains primary responsibility for safety while providing adaptable support wherever additional expertise or coordination is needed.
