About The Position

JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision and guidance of the Manager of Safety & Security, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing comprehensive safety and security programs. This role plays a critical part in promoting a culture of safety by conducting risk assessments and safety inspections, maintaining records, generating reports, providing education on safety regulations, enforcing compliance, and supporting incident investigations. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Core Safety Team, Technology, Human Resources, and Quality & Risk Management. This will be a full-time (40 hours) position, on a Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm schedule. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Implement safety programs that are meant to prevent injuries, fires, or other workplace incidents. Schedule and oversee workplace inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards in order to meet internal Environment of Care (EOC), funder and regulatory, and code compliance requirements. Track participation in safety training programs and educate employees on safe working practices, proper equipment operation, and emergency procedures. Support and conduct investigations of incidents and accidents; gather and analyze data and recommend improvements. Prepare and submit accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Enforce policies and procedures on an agency wide basis and by area as directed by Manager of Safety & Security and the Director of Property. Ensure the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), devices, and first aid supplies. Maintain records on safety inspections, and inventory of safety and fire equipment and devices. Assist in the development, implementation, and communication of emergency response plans. Conduct safety audits and risk assessments. Identify, implement and enforce preventative measures. Support investigations of incidents; prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to designated leadership, Director and Core Safety team. Participate in the annual agency risk assessment process. Maintain knowledge of existing safety codes and regulations and keep abreast of upcoming changes. Provide assistance to other department’s various code compliance regulations. Respond to emergencies and support Incident Commander role as assigned . Emergencies may include intruder, fire, evacuation, lock-down, lock-out. Establish and maintain relationships with key community stakeholder groups including neighbors and fire, life, and safety authorities. Monitor GPS tracking, collect data, prepare reports, and conduct vehicle inspections. While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in safety, security or related field required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience required of safety, risk, safety software, and/or digital record keeping, compliance and reporting.
  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.
  • CPR certification required or obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety laws.
  • Understanding of hazard identification, job safety analysis, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to evaluate complex situations, assess risks, and make sound recommendations for safety improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments and leadership to drive safety initiatives forward.
  • Strong understanding of accident investigation procedures, documentation, and root cause analysis methodologies.
