The Mundelein Park & Recreation District is looking for its next safety champion to lead the daily safety oversight, conduct inspections, deliver engaging training, and partner with supervisors to strengthen safety practices across the District. This new position of Safety Coordinator will support the continuous safety initiatives and boost overall safety efficiency. What makes you a great fit: Strong understanding of safety standards and workplace best practices Confident communicator who can coach, influence, and collaborate Detail-driven with the ability to stay organized in a fast moving environment Comfortable in the field, on the floor, and in front of a group Passionate about building a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility Summary Under the supervision and direction of the Recreation Facility Manager, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for directing and managing the Park District's overall safety program and related documentation. The Coordinator provides staff training, conducts accident investigations, and works closely with the Park District's risk management association to ensure compliance with recommendations and regulations.

Requirements

  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • Must have progressively responsible experience in a professional environment, preferably in a park district or related environment.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage Park District's safety programs, processes, training, and employee safety new hire orientations in coordination with the Recreation Facility Manager.
  • Responsible for general safety concerns relating to all Park District operations, functions, grounds, and facilities.
  • Inspect internal and external facilities, and review and evaluate operations.
  • Inspect AED and Test Panic Buttons on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain and restock first aid inventory, including eye wash on a monthly basis.
  • Partner with Park & Facility Maintenance to complete the annual Tullamore Dam Inspection.
  • Review training and safety needs and provide and develop in-service training for all Park District personnel
  • Manage the District Driver Program and perform Driver's Abstracts verification upon hire and annually for all MPRD staff.
  • Partner with Human Resources to complete the annual OSHA 300 report.
  • Develop and recommend safety-related policies, procedures, programs, inspection reports, and accident reports.
  • Serve as a permanent member on the Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for transmitting any information relating to PDRMA to the committee head.
  • Manage and conduct accident and incident, property loss, and employee illness and injury reporting and investigations, make all necessary reports, work with insurance carriers to report losses, and assist in the adjustment of claims.
  • Partner with Human Resources on all employee-related injuries for reporting purposes regarding workers' compensation.
  • Partner with PDRMA's Risk Management Consultant on items relating to the Risk Management Review (RMR) process and the Essentials of Risk Management (ERM).
  • Act as the liaison between staff and PDRMA.
  • Respond to and address questions from staff.
  • Partner with Aquatics on follow-up from the Aquatics Audit process.
  • Partner with specific departments to review contracts, agreements, and waivers.
  • Manage vendor Certificates of Insurance.
  • Oversee the District's volunteer process.
  • Partner with the Cultural Arts and Events Supervisor to manage volunteers and perform volunteer orientation.
  • Maintain records and files related to safety certificates and training.
  • Monitor existing safety programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to personnel, safety, and insurance laws.
  • Ensure employees have the necessary certificates as required by law.
  • Perform job task observations, reinforcement, and coaching to ensure the use of appropriate equipment, including personal protective equipment, three points of contact, reversal of posture, stretching, best practices, ergonomics, lifting, and material handling.
  • Analyze data on accidents, incidents, property losses, and employee injury and illness for trends and suggest appropriate engineering, administrative, and safety controls.
  • Coordinate preparation and post-event actions relevant to Loss Control.
  • Review any other external organization audits, reviews, and inspections.
  • Prepare a monthly report that is used to update the Board of Commissioners on safety-related matters.
  • Act as the Park District's Designated Employer Representative for Commercial Driver's Licenses, including completion of the CDL Driver Limited inquiry from the Clearinghouse upon hire and annually for staff.
  • Complete the PDRMA Asset reporting annually.
  • Partner with associated departments as needed.
  • Complete the Pollution Insurance application as needed.
  • Act as the primary liaison with local emergency services and oversee the scheduling of routine fire drills.
  • Act as the Park District subject matter expert on safety protocols.
  • Partner with Aquatics on the IDPH Serious Aquatic incident report as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
