About The Position

The Workforce Group, a LEMOINE company, is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to support emergency operations under the Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response (OHSEPR). The Safety Officer serves as the lead authority on operational safety and risk management within the Incident Command System (ICS) structure when activated. This position monitors incident operations and advises the Incident Commander (IC) or Unified Command on all matters relating to operational safety, including the health and safety of incident personnel. The role requires strong situational awareness, crisis response capability, and the ability to enforce safety protocols in dynamic, high -stress environments while maintaining a trauma -informed approach. These emergency response centers function 24/7 with shifts lasting up to 12 hours, necessitating flexible scheduling and extended hours to meet operational demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in safety management, emergency response, disaster operations, occupational health and safety, or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, emergency response protocols, hazard identification, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions during emergencies or high -stress situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with diverse and vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and rapid deployment scenarios.
  • Completion of required FEMA ICS (Incident Command System) training is mandatory prior to deployment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving in a Safety Officer role within an Incident Command System (ICS) structure is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in shelter environments, congregate care settings, or federally coordinated emergency operations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with trauma -informed care principles is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Safety Officer within the Incident Command System (ICS) structure during activations, advising the Incident Commander (IC) or Unified Command on all operational safety matters.
  • Identify hazardous situations, evaluate risks, and implement corrective actions to protect incident personnel and others.
  • Develop, implement, and update safety components of the Incident Action Plan (IAP) as required.
  • Conduct regular facility safety inspections, including fire exits, alarm systems, emergency lighting, and first aid supplies to ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies using de -escalation techniques and established emergency response protocols.
  • Document and report safety incidents, corrective actions, inspections, and compliance findings in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Support entry/exit control procedures and monitor security equipment including cameras, locks, and alarm systems.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and community partners to ensure a secure and compliant operational environment.
  • Provide safety briefings and training to staff and others, including fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Participate in after -action reviews and continuous safety improvement planning.
  • Perform other job -related duties as assigned.
