Legacy Behavioral Health is hiring individuals with a passion for making a difference in their community! We are seeking a Safety Officer to work in our Behavioral Health Crisis Center in Valdosta, GA. Under the direct supervision of the Safety Manager our Safety Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for consumers, visitors, and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and the people onsite. Preventive patrol or inspectional service is the method employed by Safety Officers to determine that conditions are normal in a given area and to provide a visible deterrent factor. This function takes on greater importance at night by providing a feeling of safety for staff, consumers, and visitors. While on patrol, Safety Officers routinely turn off lights to conserve energy. They also check windows and doors to afford better protection to building occupants and to safeguard unoccupied areas. An especially important function of Safety Officers is their rapid response to security emergencies within the BHCC. Whether for psychiatric or medical reasons, consumers sometimes become violent or threatening and Safety Officers are a critical member of the response team. They will use Mindset techniques when dealing with a consumer during a security crisis. Other responsibilities include assisting visitors with issues in the parking lot, enforcing rules and regulations of the organization when necessary, monitoring weather conditions, and accompanying staff during transport of patients. They may be called upon to assist nursing and clinical staff in day-to-day routine duties or to serve as back-up for the BHCC receptionist. This position also has the possibility of becoming permanent.
