About The Position

The Assistant Safety & Security Manager at Lake Nona Wave Hotel supports the leadership and daily operations of the Safety & Security Department by promoting exceptional service to both internal and external guests. This role assists in providing guidance, training (including OSHA standards, life-safety awareness, and emergency procedures), scheduling coordination, and performance oversight to ensure efficient and compliant day-to-day operations. The position supports the direction of property-wide safety and security initiatives, incident response, and regulatory compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal requirements, while upholding departmental and company standards and serving as a professional ambassador of Wave Hotel committed to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience and demonstrated leadership performance may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Progressive experience in security, safety, or a related field preferred, including demonstrated leadership potential, supervisory exposure, or internal advancement within the organization.
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and background screening in accordance with company standards.
  • Working knowledge of local and state laws, investigative procedures, workplace safety regulations, and fire/life safety practices.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, or ability to obtain certification within required timeframe.
  • Alcohol awareness certification (e.g., TIPS or equivalent) or ability to obtain within designated period.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise, and professional direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed reports, conduct basic investigations, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems, incident reporting platforms, and standard office software.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-in situations.
  • Internal candidates must be in good standing, meet performance expectations, and demonstrate leadership readiness consistent with company standards.

  • Prior experience within an upscale or luxury hospitality setting preferred.
  • CLSO certification preferred; required within designated timeframe after placement.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a knowledgeable first responder for onsite incidents involving internal and external guests; assess situations promptly and take appropriate action in accordance with departmental procedures and company standards.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of scheduled group activities, occupancy levels, hotel facilities and services, hours of operation, facility layout, fire and emergency response plans, and departmental rules of conduct.
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings to communicate critical information, reinforce safety priorities, and ensure continuity during shift transitions.
  • Provide safety escorts for team members and guests in accordance with established departmental standards.
  • Ensure after-hours deliveries and access to secured areas are properly authorized, monitored, and documented in compliance with property procedures.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with outside agencies (e.g., Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, regulatory authorities) in alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Monitor surveillance systems, conduct routine and random patrols of the property, and respond to duress alarms and security alerts as assigned.
  • Conduct and document investigations related to theft, lost items, disturbances, noise complaints, guest altercations, food-related concerns, and other reported incidents in accordance with established reporting protocols.
  • Facilitate monthly property safety meetings with structured agendas and documented action items.
  • Organize and conduct monthly departmental meetings focused on operational updates, compliance initiatives, and team development.
  • Perform daily life-safety inspections throughout the property; document deficiencies, assign corrective actions to appropriate departments, and track completion timelines.
  • Coordinate and participate in quarterly fire drills in collaboration with the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure all mandatory officer training requirements are completed within designated timeframes and properly documented.
  • Manage and document all Lost & Found items received by Security, log guest inquiries and coordinate return procedures in accordance with hotel standards.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of all reports and sensitive documentation; release information strictly on a “need-to-know” basis to authorized individuals.
  • Maintain the departmental daily logbook and verify that all required reports, documentation, and end-of-shift responsibilities are completed accurately and in time by Security Officers.
