About The Position

The Zero Waste Manager - Sanitation Business Administration performs highly advanced, complex management and oversight of daily operations for an operating unit or functional program. This position oversees strategy, planning, and performance improvement, and manages environmental safety, customer service, route optimization, and data analysis systems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the Sanitation activities of the City.
  • Knowledge of zero-waste principles, recycling systems, and environmental policies.
  • Ability to manage business activities through the supervision of subordinates and staff.
  • Ability to devise solutions to administrative problems and plan, assign, and delegate responsibility.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, or Sustainability.
  • Five (5) years of experience in waste management or sustainability.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory/management responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement zero-waste strategies, policies, and initiatives to achieve waste reduction and diversion goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize waste reduction opportunities.
  • Represents the program area at meetings, hearings, and conferences, as well as on boards, panels, and committees.
  • Lead public education campaigns to promote zero-waste practices among residents and local businesses.
  • Collect and analyze data on waste generation, diversion rates, and program performance.
  • Assist with oversight of the City’s composting program.
  • Establishes, determines, and implements short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives; develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals and directs evaluation activities.
  • Performs all other work as needed or assigned.
