About The Position

The Sanitation Manager is responsible for the development and management of the Sanitation Team to ensure that plant environments meet mandatory sanitation requirements for machinery, equipment, and facilities. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws while following all CI processes and the Food Safety System of the company. This includes overseeing plant and production equipment cleaning, chemical handling, building and grounds inspections and upkeep, as well as planning, assigning, and directing work, coordinating and/or attending meetings, addressing processes and employee concerns, and resolving problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Ag Business, Food Science. Equivalent sanitation leadership experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience in Lean and continuous improvement a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Promote a "safety first" culture within the Sanitation and all other departments.
  • Confer with management and operations personnel on sanitation problems, recommend changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and effectiveness of process.
  • Maintain and keep updated on all chemical usage procedures.
  • Compile required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.
  • Regularly audit sanitation processes to ensure compliance.
  • Implement and oversee plant Master Sanitation programs, Master Sanitation Schedule, Weekend Schedule, and cleaning schedule.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to plan for different cleans such as break cleans, annual cleans, organic cleans, and miscellaneous tasks such as supporting Administration offices and buildings.
  • Partner with production and other management to plan and schedule work of supervised staff to meet sanitation schedules while maximizing productivity.
  • Recommend measures to continuously improve sanitation methods, equipment performance, and quality.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors, such as the plant chemical supplier.
  • Provide supervision of assigned employees in scheduling, time off requests and daily activities, ensure effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action, and performance management.
  • Train and instruct employees in regard to sanitation standards, GMPs, SSOPs and objectives.
  • Oversee instruction, implementation, and enforcement of policies as they relate to sanitation employees.
  • Ensure that department employees are competent to perform their assigned duties; are aware of the importance of conforming to the job expectations; have received required training and hold employees accountable to responsibilities and assignments.
  • Maintain job responsibilities for the sanitation supervisor and sanitation leads and conduct regular staff meetings to communicate general information or address specific topics to department team.
  • Present team's KPIs and overall contributions or suggestions for cross-functional teams during monthly meetings.
  • Oversee and/or conduct regular inspection of equipment for wear and for conformance to specifications.
  • Inspect job sites to identify sanitation-related maintenance needs and coordinate with Maintenance department for repairs and corrective actions.
  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary measures.
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure Sanitation Team has proper training tools such as SOPs, work instructions, equipment breakdown instructions, and PPE to ensure success.
  • Be involved in pest management control and oversee program's data and trends by issuing and resolving corrective actions.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines and communicate effectively under pressure.
