About The Position

Morgan Foods, Inc. a premier manufacturer of soups, beans, gravy, and broths is looking for a Sanitation Supervisor. The role is a full-time, 3rd shift, onsite role, located in Austin, IN. Position reports to the Director of Processing and Processing Maintenance. The Sanitation Manager is responsible for developing, leading, and continuously improving the sanitation program to ensure a safe, compliant, and production-ready manufacturing environment. This role oversees sanitation operations across all production, processing, and facility areas involved in canned and shelf-stable food manufacturing. The Sanitation Manager ensures compliance with all regulatory and food safety standards including FDA, GMPs, FSMA Preventive Controls, and third-party certification programs, specifically SQF. The role leads sanitation supervisors and employees manages the master sanitation schedule, and partners closely with Quality, Production, and Maintenance to maintain hygienic conditions that protect product integrity and consumer safety. This position requires both strategic leadership and active engagement on the manufacturing floor to ensure sanitation standards are consistently executed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience in food manufacturing sanitation experience may be considered
  • 5-8 years sanitation or food safety experience in food manufacturing facility.
  • 2-3 year supervisor/leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of FDA Food Safety regulations, FSMA Prevention Controls, GMP Sanitation Standards, Allergen Control Practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the facility Sanitation Program including policies, procedures, and sanitation standards.
  • Manage and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) for all equipment, production areas, and facility infrastructure.
  • Ensure sanitation programs effectively control food safety hazards including microbiological contamination, allergens, and foreign materials.
  • Standardize sanitation procedures across production lines and shifts.
  • Lead sanitation operations for production equipment and facility areas including: Cooking kettles and thermal processing systems Retorts and sterilization equipment Fillers, seamers, and can handling systems Conveyors and packaging equipment Ingredient handling and processing systems Floors, drains, overheads, and facility infrastructure
  • Coordinate sanitation schedules with production and maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure efficient line startup.
  • Ensure sanitation practices meet regulatory requirements including: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food Environmental monitoring and pathogen control programs Allergen control programs
  • Maintain sanitation documentation and records required for food safety audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Lead sanitation-related portions of SQF audits and regulatory inspections
  • Manage sanitation chemical programs including supplier relationships and chemical optimization.
  • Lead extermination program with vendors.
  • Ensure proper chemical storage, handling, and concentration control.
  • Oversee sanitation equipment including foaming systems, pressure washers, and CIP/COP systems.
  • Coordinate with maintenance to ensure sanitation equipment reliability.
  • Lead, coach, and develop sanitation supervisors and sanitation technicians.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and labor allocation for sanitation crews across shifts.
  • Provide training on sanitation procedures, food safety requirements, chemical safety, and GMP standards.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sanitation efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management.
