About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating industrial saws to cut raw materials—primarily aluminum and iron—according to production specifications. This role plays a critical part in supporting precision machining operations by ensuring materials are cut to exact tolerances, labeled correctly, and delivered to machining cells on time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of saw operation or related manufacturing experience.
  • Computer skills
  • Forklift experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Time management in high‑volume production environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Indoor crane experience – preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate horizontal, vertical, and/or band saws to cut aluminum and iron stock to specified lengths and tolerances.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, work orders, and cut lists.
  • Ensure cuts meet dimensional accuracy using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Select appropriate blades and adjust machine settings based on material type and cutting requirements.
  • Set up saws, including aligning guides, adjusting feed rates, and securing material.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Identify and report material defects, incorrect dimensions, or equipment inconsistencies.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including cut quantities, scrap rates, and material usage.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, safe material handling, and equipment guarding.
  • Keep work area clean and free of hazards.
  • Conduct basic preventive maintenance—cleaning, lubrication, and blade replacement.
  • Immediately report equipment issues or safety concerns.
  • Stage raw material and deliver cut components to machining departments as required.
  • Use forklifts, pallet jacks, or overhead cranes (if applicable) to move heavy stock safely.
  • Organize and label materials accurately for traceability.
