About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and auto saws used to cut materials to specified lengths. This includes visual inspections, proper blade maintenance, and adherence to quality and safety standards. The operator must follow detailed work instructions, ensure accurate record-keeping, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSE).
  • 2+ years of experience operating manual and auto saws in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Frequently required to reach and use hands and arms continuously.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Daily setup and safe operation of manual and auto saws.
  • Adjust Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) parameters when required.
  • Perform visual inspections of blades and saw plates and inspect for damage or wear.
  • Install and maintain blades while following the Lock Out Tag Out program.
  • Adjust stop pieces for correct length and validate with measuring devices.
  • Execute controlled, precise cutting operations, observing safety precautions with spring-loaded saw handles.
  • Monitor coolant levels and ensure proper disposal to prevent slips or falls.
  • Complete setup approval per work instructions before production runs.
  • Monitor production quality; check part length, inspect for burrs or abrasions.
  • Maintain clean equipment and workplace; report safety issues immediately to team leader, supervisor, or manager.
  • Record all production data and downtime on appropriate forms and/or computer programs.
  • Handle non-conforming parts as outlined in work instructions.
  • Adhere to environmental policies including chemical handling and waste disposal procedures.
  • Follow detailed instructions from shop routers, JIBs, and work instructions.
  • Monitor and achieve established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as production output, quality standards, efficiency, and safety compliance, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with company goals.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to prevent safety hazards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
