About The Position

The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position. The Oncology Scheduler is responsible for scheduling all patient activities, including but not limited to, physician appointments, treatments, lab appointments, diagnostic imaging tests, procedures, phlebotomies, blood transfusions, appointments with outside physicians or clinics, etc. The scheduler is responsible for verifying insurance coverage for all scheduled events and acquiring any necessary precertification’s or authorizations. In addition to their scheduling duties, the scheduler will assist private pay or underinsured patients in their efforts to apply for benefits related to their oncology treatment, medications and hospital care. Under the direction of the Cancer Center Director and the supervision of the Oncology Clinical Manager, this employee is responsible for assisting patients in locating resources and qualifying patients to receive aid through a variety of governmental agencies, community resources and pharmaceutical companies. This position is critical to ensuring the patient’s treatments are covered and the hospital receives the needed revenues for these treatments and services. Some of the many skills performed · Verbal ability to communicate courteously to the public and the various government agencies and resources. · Compliance with Government agency rules/ regulations and terminology. · Concern and interest in meeting the needs of the patient. · Courtesy to and collaboration with other staff · Accuracy and timeliness of information · Computer skills: o Electronic Medical Record (CPSI and ARIA) o Medicaid online o Microsoft Excel o Microsoft Word · Accurate and timely record keeping · Follows up diligently with resources and patients · Documents appropriately in the chart/ EMR in an accurately and timely · Handles account inquiries timely, accurately and courteously · Ability to assume responsibility and take initiative

Requirements

  • Verbal ability to communicate courteously to the public and the various government agencies and resources.

  • Computer skills: Electronic Medical Record (CPSI and ARIA), Medicaid online, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
  • Accurate and timely record keeping
  • Follows up diligently with resources and patients
  • Documents appropriately in the chart/ EMR in an accurately and timely
  • Handles account inquiries timely, accurately and courteously
  • Ability to assume responsibility and take initiative
  • One year of experience in pre-cert/ scheduling, financial assistance or a related field.
