About The Position

The School Health Aide at KIPP Kansas City works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and school leadership to support student health needs throughout the school year. This individual will provide first aid, administer medication, and help promote a safe and healthy school environment. The Health Aide will also be responsible for maintenance of the health services office and student health records in compliance with state regulations and KIPP Kansas City policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire (required).

  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside the school or office throughout the workday.
  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA, MA, or other medical certification (preferred).
  • Experience in a healthcare or childcare setting (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic first aid for illness and injury according to school policy and procedure.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician instructions and school policies (under supervision by Registered Nurse).
  • Monitor and assist students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, allergies, etc. (under supervision by Registered Nurse).
  • Maintain health office and equipment.
  • Support the Registered Nurse and Social Worker in conducting vision, hearing, and other health screenings.
  • Promote hygiene, wellness, and safe health practices across the school through student and staff education initiatives.
  • Communicate health-related concerns with families and staff in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate student health records and documentation, including health office visits, student health plans, and immunization records.
  • Ensure up-to-date student health plans are provided to appropriate staff.
  • Track student immunization records, following up with guardians to ensure compliance with vaccine schedule and appropriate documentation.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
