About The Position

The School Psychologist serves as a vital mental health and instructional partner responsible for supporting the academic and social-emotional success of students in grades K-6. This role involves conducting comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluations to determine special education eligibility, developing data-driven IEPs, and providing evidence-based counseling and crisis intervention through a trauma-informed lens. As a collaborative leader, the school psychologist works seamlessly with staff and families to implement MTSS and social emotional support frameworks, leads the FBA/BIP process for complex behavioral challenges, and advocates for equitable practices. This professional needs to have a strong procedural knowledge of IDEA and be committed to building authentic relationships and fostering an inclusive, supportive school culture for all students. The school psychologist may also help train staff regarding how to support students with disabilities in the general education setting, and develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders. Charles Hay World School houses the center-based affective needs program. Experience with students that have higher levels of need in the area of emotional regulation, impulse control, social skills and serious emotional disabilities is preferred.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology.
  • Certified through the National Association of School Psychologists.
  • English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Valid Colorado Special Services License with School Psychologist endorsement.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to change.
  • Possesses computer and technology skills.
  • Effectively works with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaborates well with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions.
  • Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively with the School District community.
  • Skilled in analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information.
  • Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Upholds a generally positive attitude.
  • Complies with all District policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Bilingual (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive environment and effective management structures to purposefully promote and foster effective student achievement.
  • Create a safe environment that establishes routines and provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality.
  • Promote an environment respecting the dignity of the student.
  • Ensure all processes, procedures, and data collection are highly organized and effective with optimal use of time.
  • Motivate, engage, and empower all students.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
  • Evaluate the student's ability and formulate the student's profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
  • Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention.
  • Develop intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans (IEP) and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
  • Design, develop, and provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to facilitate student performance within the school environment.
  • Consult with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject areas to establish links between disciplines.
  • Demonstrate mastery of content.
  • Suggest and demonstrate strategies and techniques that are relevant to students and applicable to the real world.
  • Integrate and align objectives, strategies, activities, materials, resources, assessments, and differentiate based on individual student needs.
  • Use data management tools to analyze results and draw inferences from data to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Teach, monitor, and collaborate with educational personnel, community agencies, parent/guardian, and students to increase understanding of the student's needs.
  • Provide continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community-based service providers.
  • Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific, and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and staff about students' progress and opportunities.
  • Utilize technology and/or other avenues to communicate to stakeholders (website, podcasts, etc.).
  • Actively participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements.
  • Use professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
  • Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
