About the role: The Scientist III plays a key role in supporting existing polymer coatings on Boston Scientific products while advancing coating development projects. This role involves hands-on experimentation, coating characterization, and data-driven analysis to support product performance, reliability, and innovation. As part of Research and Development, teams design, develop, and manufacture technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular disorders. Our portfolio addresses conditions such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and heart failure, and includes drug-eluting stents, bare-metal stents, catheters, balloons, guide wires, coronary atherectomy systems, and intravascular ultrasound technologies. Boston Scientific maintains a robust pipeline and continues to invest in interventional therapies that enhance patient outcomes and quality of life. Work model, sponsorship, relocation: At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science and engineering, or chemistry, with a minimum of 4 years' experience in a relevant role; or a doctoral degree with a minimum of 0 years' experience and up to 3 years' experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with polymer coating processes and performance testing.
  • Experience working with industrial- or pilot-scale coating equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of structure-property relationships in polymer material systems, including hydrogels and functional polymers.
  • Experience in the medical device industry.
  • Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with curiosity and creativity in developing innovative solutions that support product development needs.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to polymer coating-related project execution through sound experimental design, hands-on testing, and data analysis under the guidance of senior technical staff.
  • Develop prototype medical device coatings and associated test methods to evaluate coating performance.
  • Troubleshoot coating-related issues by applying an understanding of how process conditions impact performance.
  • Summarize experimental results and analyses in technical reports and test method documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex projects, using strong written and verbal communication skills to support project success.
  • Perform complex data analysis; identify, investigate, and propose solutions to problematic data; independently resolve routine technical issues at an appropriate level; and compare findings with historical data.
  • Document experimental work through technical reports, experimental records, and lab notebook entries, and participate in peer review of experimental documentation as needed.
