About The Position

The Scientist III serves as a senior contributor within Claros’ R&D team. Building on experience gained in previous levels, this position leads advanced treatability and pilot-support studies, integrating scientific judgment and data interpretation with expectation to be an expert in subject matter. This role emphasizes technical innovation, problem resolution, and cross-functional communication. The Scientist III should be able to manage multipal bench-scale treatability studies; develops and validates bench-scale solutions to improve system throughput and performance; provides technical guidance to bench-scale or pilot scale project performance, and contributes to customer-related technical discussions. At this level, the scientist demonstrates clear ownership of scientific direction, mentors junior staff, and provides technical review for experiments and reports to maintain quality and consistency.

Requirements

  • B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant R&D experience (or 2 years post-Master’s / equivalent Ph.D.).
  • Expert in subject matter in water treatment engineering (e.g., pre/post-treatment) and demonstration on the bench-scale to improve the system performance.
  • Experience in managing multipal projects or supporting/advising pilot-scale operations to cope with the water quality changes on site.
  • Recognized contributions to Claros’ intellectual property and scientific publications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of complex laboratory studies for bench-scale treatabilities.
  • Lead and support pilot-scale projects by providing design and operational guidance.
  • Serve as a key contributor in for onsite performance, ensuring pilot testing deliver consistent and interpretable performance results.
  • Demonstrate strong skills to resolve technical issues or process bottlenecks identified in the bench/pilot scale treatability studies.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and presentation materials summarizing study design, data interpretation, and recommendations.
  • Assist in sourcing for technology service providers with the ultimate goal to have an engineering solution in place.
  • Advance understanding of PFAS structure–reactivity relationships and apply this knowledge to develop and validate new bench-scale treatment methods.
  • Design and demonstrate method innovations that enhance system throughput, reliability, or scalability.
  • Conduct technical reviews of experimental plans, data packages, and reports to ensure methodological rigor and traceability.
  • Participate in technical meetings with customers and partners, articulating scientific rationale, data limitations, and performance insights.
  • Mentor junior scientists and associates to support daily project execution and promote professional growth within the team.
  • Lead preparation of treatability reports, white papers, patent applications, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Uphold all Claros safety standards and R&D Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-documented laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and integrity in all laboratory and communication practices.
