About The Position

Acme Gridley Multi Spindle Screw Machine Set up Operator-2nd Shift. Trains on r multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The candidate shall also have the ability to write routine reports and other correspondence as well as the ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
  • The candidate shall also have the ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • The candidate shall also possess ability to input, analyze and interpret SPC data and manage machine set up to maintain nominal standards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.
  • Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.
  • Installs and adjusts specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.
  • Positions and secures tools in tool holders.
  • Sets cutting speeds and feed rates.
  • Moves controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.
  • Starts machine, observes operation, and inspects first run and sample work piece to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
  • Replaces worn tools.
  • Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Machines metallic materials.
  • Performs general routine maintenance of the machine intended to insure machine performance other than specified periodic maintenance performed by maintenance personnel.
