About The Position

This non-exempt, non-benefited, seasonal position performs a variety of procedures to include routine sampling of aqueous and semi-aqueous samples associated with the operation of water, wastewater, and distribution system to ensure compliance with State and EPA regulations Works under the direct supervision of the Lead Analyst and the general direction of the Laboratory Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate various motor vehicles including trucks, off-road vehicles, and small boats if necessary to retrieve samples.
  • Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and lab specific software such as LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Basic knowledge of math to include statistics, significant figures, scientific rounding, and simple equations.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ability to apply safety principles on all job tasks.
  • Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances; act accordingly to prevent accidents, and promptly report accidents and hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to work independently without direction for extended periods of time while sampling.
  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors and co-workers and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to operate instruments such as a spectrophotometer and turbidimeter used in bench top chemistry.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, organize activities in order to complete tasks in accordance with priorities, address multiple demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate various motor vehicles including trucks, off-road vehicles and small boats if necessary to retrieve samples.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a Motor Vehicle Record within the Acceptable or no less than Borderline Rating according to the Vehicle Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience or education in water and wastewater sampling and basic lab testing desirable, but not required
  • Previous trailer towing experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs sampling as instructed at a variety of locations using appropriate motor vehicle necessary to retrieve samples from various locations to include: RH Water Purification Facility Wastewater Plants (2) Distribution System Collection System Reservoirs (2) Surface Water (creeks) Residential Homes Raw Water (Well System)
  • Performs analysis using bench-top chemistry and field instrumentation that may include: Alkalinity, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Conductivity, pH, Temperature, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Solids (%TS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Turbidity and UV-254 Other analyses on an as needed basis
  • Prepares sample for analyses to include filtration and preservation.
  • Records sampling data into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Disseminates sampling and testing information to the Laboratory Staff.
  • Receives and stores chemicals in appropriate containment per the SDS and follows safety and operating procedures.
  • Maintains good Laboratory hygiene practices through participation in daily laboratory cleanup and maintenance of sampling equipment to include samplers, boats, trailers, and field meters.
  • Attends technical and safety training meetings, courses and seminars as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
