The purpose of Utah’s Hogle Safety/EMS Department is to provide a professional level of service in all areas of security, safety, and emergency first-aid to all guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors. Officers will maintain a visible presence on grounds to act as rule enforcement, safety guides, walking “signposts” to help guide and answer guest questions, and first-aid. Officers may be called to assist in a variety of zoo incidents, emergencies, or needs. Utah’s Hogle Zoo Safety/EMS Department operates as organizational security, and first-aid. Applicants with security and/or EMT certifications will be looked at more favorably. All Safety/EMS Officers MUST have current BLS and Stop-The-Bleed certifications, and be willing and able to render first aid, respond to security-related calls, communicate with guests and staff, and be standing or walking most of the day. This position is a non-benefited variable-hour position with a variety of five-hour-long shifts available via a bidding system each month. Available shifts will increase during spring-fall seasons, and decrease slightly in the winter. Utah’s Hogle Zoo Security department is staffed year-round including on weekends and holidays, in inclement weather, and throughout the day. At the zoo we look for employees who are passionate about conservation, who approach their daily work with a can-do attitude, who are resourceful, who communicate respectfully with everyone, and are ready to work hard supporting the zoo’s mission of creating champions for wildlife by making connections between people and animals to inspire action. Utah’s Hogle Zoo is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all.
