About The Position

The role of the secondary mathematics teacher is to help each student develop competence in mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each student to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of applied mathematics; to encourage students to develop and advance in the field of mathematics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; field of study correlated to teaching assignment as a secondary mathematics teacher with the appropriate Arkansas licensure code or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
  • Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Teach secondary mathematics courses to students in grades 9-12, utilizing course guidelines that are aligned with Arkansas teaching/learning standards and other appropriate curriculum pacing guides in teaching individual course content.
  • Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing “discovery” and laboratory learning methods.
  • Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, other available technology in the understanding of mathematical algorithms.
  • Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluate each student’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills.
  • Utilize graphing calculators and other technological tools to deepen student learning/understanding of mathematics.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintain required inventory records.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual student’s progress in mathematics.
  • Supervise students in and out-of-classroom during the assigned work day.
  • Participate in curriculum developmental programs.
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematic teams and participates in faculty committees.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
