About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The position is responsible for overseeing services funded through the HCCBG block grant, along with additional contracted and grant-funded programs within the Division of Aging, as needed. The Section Chief provides leadership and direction to a team of eight and collaborates with division leadership and team leads to identify opportunities for strategic planning, program alignment, and cross-unit coordination and collaboration. This role ensures that all services comply with applicable federal and state regulations and serves as a subject matter expert across program areas. Responsibilities include guiding staff on policy interpretation, contributing to the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, and offering statewide outreach and public speaking on behalf of the Division. The Section Chief also partners closely with Area Agencies on Aging, Senior Centers, Councils of Governments, private providers, state advocacy organizations, and represents the Division on various committees and work groups.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
