About The Position

Security Chief (4680-39) Deadline to Apply: Open Until Filled Work Location: River City Correctional Center 3220 Colerain Avenue Cincinnati, OH 45225 Work Hours: 80 Hours Bi-Weekly- varied days and shifts – 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Starting Salary: $ 28.00 an hour Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification): Preferred: Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in security or law enforcement and 5 years’ experience in residential or correctional facility. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the social/behavioral sciences, social work, counseling, psychology, or criminal justice fields. Licensure and Certification Requirements Possession of a valid Ohio Operator’s License. Job Duties (Summary): Holds regular meetings with staff, supervises, trains and directs the Assistant Security Chiefs, Resident Assistants and Resident Advisors. Insures resident environment is safe, clean and meets all accrediting body expectations. To include key control resident security and facility access. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director, defines expectations and evaluates performance of employees under his/her direct supervision to encourage and promote employee growth and maximize services rendered. Submits probationary, special and annual job performance evaluations on employees supervised within established time limits to the Deputy Director. Maintains accurate and thorough files for documentation necessary for reports, which can be utilized in the development of an annual budget and annual report. Reads daily shift reports and takes any corrective action necessary. Supervises the conducting of visual head counts, isolation checks, facility shakedowns and resident searches and drug testing according to established procedures and documents all said activities. Assists in conducting and documenting monthly fire drills, weekly vehicle inspections and other emergency drills. Ensures daily inspections of housing areas are conducted and documented to ensure housing areas are clean, orderly and in good repair. Communicates with residents to address concerns. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to information obtained and processed in the operation of the facility. Transports residents as needed. Responsible for making sure all security staff receive proper orientation and meet the annual training requirements. Participates in the American Correctional Association (ACA) and ODRC audit. Working Conditions Moderate noise in Correctional Center setting. Ability to work different hours and days to accommodate coverage needs and communicate with all staff. Physical Demands Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, stooping, crouching and reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to transfer up to 40 pounds. Ability to reach into file drawers in standard four-drawer filing cabinets. Visual ability sufficient to effectively operate a copier, facsimile machine and a computer terminal, and to read reports, correspondence and instructions. Hearing ability sufficient to converse with other individuals, both in person and by telephone. Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and by telephone. Ability to read and prepare reports with recommendations Communications Conveys and receives information in person, over the telephone and in written form. Position Title: Security Chief – (CBCF) Employee benefits are included but are not limited to employees regularly schedule to work an average of thirty (30) hours or more per week. Medical insurance coverage through United Health Care, dental, vision, vacation, sick leave,15 observed paid holidays, employer paid life insurance, and Ohio Public Employees Retirement (OPERS) where employees contribute 10% of their pay on a pre-tax basis and the employer contributes 14%.
