The Security Design Specialist II evaluates building design, construction, and modifications to identify critical elements and assists in planning and implementing acoustic and Radio Frequency (RF) policies and guidelines within the State Department’s infrastructure. The specialist collaborates with the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations and outside agencies to resolve design issues and ensure proper standards are in place for New Embassy Compounds (NECs), New Office Buildings (NOBs), and major renovations. The role prepares technical reports for senior government officials, identifying potential security vulnerabilities and providing recommendations to mitigate risk. The specialist supports the Certification Accreditation and Transit (CAT) Branch and the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations by addressing questions from posts, conducting on-site reviews, and joining accreditation teams. The specialist participates in project teams to further develop technical security standards, particularly those related to Overseas Security Policy Board (OSPB) standards. The Security Design Specialist II is responsible for working with data throughout its lifecycle, including collection, management, analysis, reporting, and secure disposition, to support design review and compliance activities.
