About The Position

Security Dispatchers staff the Security Control Center (SCC) and are responsible for coordinating prompt and efficient prioritization and response to requests for security, internal emergency response, police, fire or emergency medical services. The Security Dispatcher has primary responsibility for receiving calls for emergency and non-emergency services and the initial deployment of responders. The Security Dispatcher must dispatch in a clear, concise and timely manner to provide efficient and diligent service utilizing professionalism and common sense. Security Dispatchers maintain accurate and uniform documentation of all dispatched activity properly utilizing the Omnigo dispatch system and be familiar with the procedure for all other data recording and entry responsibilities assigned to the Security Control Center (SCC). Additionally, the Security Dispatcher maintains and retrieves records, files, and information for prompt dissemination to security officers and departmental personnel. The Security Dispatcher is a non-supervisory position, but is directly responsible for work assignment, direction and delegation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, some post-secondary education preferred
  • 0 to 2 years working in dispatch or call center, Security Operations Center, or related function preferred
  • Valid drivers license
  • Experience working and speaking with the public is required.
  • Candidates must be able to successfully complete all initial training and ongoing in-service training.
  • Operation of the two-way radio, telephone, computer skills and related communications equipment.
  • Ability to speak English clearly and concisely, providing detailed information under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop skills and speed in the operations of the communications equipment within a reasonable period and to demonstrate a knowledge of security, public safety and healthcare practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operates radios, telecommunications equipment, recording devices, computer terminals, and records management systems.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the departments policy and procedure for using the telephone, radio, and other communications equipment.
  • Utilizes and maintains a solid working knowledge of procedures and policies.
  • Answer and prioritize all incoming internal and external calls, promptly and appropriately and assist all callers in a calm, courteous and professional manner.
  • When multiple telephone calls are received, service & transfer them according to priority.
  • Obtain all necessary information from telephone callers to determine the incident location utilizing maps and any available tools and relay that information to responding units and personnel to maximize the accuracy and speed of dispatch.
  • Provide information via communications systems to coordinate the activities of internal responders and other public safety personnel who are engaged in responding to critical incidents.
  • Conduct all radio transmissions according to the Federal Communications Commission rules and the departments established procedures.
  • Maintain situational awareness of internal, local, regional, state, and national emergencies, weather events, mutual aid status, significant incidents, planned events, etc.
  • Notifies appropriate command staff / Lead Officer of emergency events per protocol.
  • Security Dispatchers are essential and required to work regardless of weather or other challenges.
  • Maintain constant and diligent monitoring of the communications and Omnigo dispatch system and immediately respond to all requests for assistance or service.
  • Accurately maintain and update the Omnigo Dispatch system status, indicating the availability and appropriate coverage of security officers, and other personnel.
  • Disseminate security related information, missing persons, stolen vehicles, messages, trespassers, BOLOs, and other security information per protocol.
  • Monitor and utilize access control, closed circuit televisions, panic, intrusion, fire, infant security and other security systems and relay pertinent information to responding officers.
  • Sends urgent communications utilizing tools such mass notification systems, electronic and overhead paging systems, and mutual aid radio.
  • Keep all personnel dispatched to incidents fully updated by providing information affecting officer and scene safety.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned or required.
