About The Position

Reporting to the Security Supervisor, the Security Guard is responsible for the safety and security of all visitors, vendors, and team members as well as the safety of works of art in the galleries, storage, and throughout the building/grounds. The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by any team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently walking and standing for much of the day, walking across uneven terrain, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing and smelling with a moderate noise level. Events and programs may require standing for extended periods of time, walking, speaking, and hearing in noisy environments. Desk work requires sitting for extended periods of time, carrying, handling, fingering, talking, and hearing, eye/hand coordination, repetitive motions. Visual demands may require near acuity, depth perception, and being able to clearly see computer monitors, tablets, etc. Strength sufficient to exert force up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Work areas are primarily indoors, in a climate-controlled environment. However, the team member occasionally may be subject to outside weather conditions while performing exterior patrols. Team members may be subject to many interruptions, pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, meeting deadlines and working evening and weekend events. Wear personal protective equipment as required. Must be physically able to drive and possess a valid driver’s license. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of safety/security practices and procedures, as well as prior experience in safety or security field preferred, but not required.
  • Additional training or coursework in security, first aid training, or other relevant education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for team members, patrons, visitors, vendors, and contractors.
  • Provide effective protection for the museum’s artwork and assets from damage and loss.
  • Field visitor questions ensuring a positive visitor experience for everyone.
  • Provide active enforcement of the museum’s rules and regulations.
  • Provide informative security awareness education as needed.
  • Report to work when scheduled, on time, and remain at assigned post until properly relieved.
  • Open and close the building and galleries and continually check for damaged or missing objects.
  • Report any changes in conditions immediately to the Security Manager and/or Director of Operations.
  • Reports to the Security Manager, both orally and in writing all incidents, accidents, vandalism, suspicious activity, unusual occurrences, and any violation of the Museum’s policies, or procedures. All reports shall be made as soon as possible after the event has occurred.
  • Help with Museum activities and special events when needed including set up and tearing down.
  • Has access to sensitive areas, documents, and assets in case an emergency exists.
  • Participates in required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
