About The Position

Under the general direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure campus environment for the patients, visitors, vendors, and the staff of Community Hospice and Palliative Care. Essential Functions Completes a review of the Community Hospice Safety & Security Officer Manual and passes the exam with a 75% accuracy rate within 85 days of employment.Enforces applicable laws, ordinance, and Community Hospice policies and procedures. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure community environment. Assists in reporting of fires, assisting fire fighters, local police, monitoring security cameras and equipment.Patrols designated parking areas, hourly post checks, M-Post documentation and maintenance, investigation and follow-up on facility/campus incidents reporting them immediately to the Security Manager or Security Risk Officer. Performs visual perusal of the exterior of the property. Demonstrates positive guest relations to patients, visitors, vendors, and staff. Completes a security refresher exam every two years with 75% accuracy. Performs all other duties assigned by the Security Manager or the Security Risk Officer. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other duties as outlined in the “Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan” and the Security Procedures Manual. Provides escort services for visitors and staff recording all instances in the monthly escort report. Provides assistance and documents all inpatient staff, guest or patient related incidents. Records the facilities’ hot water temperatures at the end of each shift in M-Post.Conducts monthly fire observation drills twice a month in an inpatient setting with an appropriate amount of staff involvement and forwards to the Security Manager for review. Performs fire extinguisher inspection once a month and records into the M-Post for documentation in the database. Performs safety and maintenance checks during patrols and forwards all maintenance related issues to the maintenance occurrence form. Security may intervene with common maintenance issues such as accessible light bulb replacement (no ladders), adjustment of room temperatures or at the request of Director of Facilities. Effectively communicates with the Security Manager or SRO on all emergency, safety or telecommunication issues.

  • Current State of Florida driver’s license with driving record acceptable to Community Hospice insurance carrier, and reliable transportation.
  • State of Florida Class “D”/ Unarmed Security Guard Property License preferred.
  • Any combination of education and/or experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be acceptable.
  • Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of two (2) years previous experience in security.
  • Pass Level II Background Screening.
  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases before direct patient contact.
  • Current immunizations including but not limited to TB, Hepatitis, and Flu.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Florida Class “D”/ Unarmed Security Guard Property License preferred.
