About The Position

Under the supervision of the Support Services Manager, performs skilled work pertaining to maintenance and care of Sego Lily Gardens. See Full Job Description CLOSING DATE: Open until filled. STARTING SALARY: $17.03 – 18.00/Hour (DOE) STATUS: Seasonal (non-benefitted, 6 months or less) DEPARTMENT: Public Utilities MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Horticulture experience preferred, but not required. Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License. Knowledge of tools, machines and equipment used in the maintenance and construction of the gardens; OSHA safety standards; general construction practices and procedures; and principles of plant and turf life. Responsibility for the care, condition and use of materials, equipment and tools; inform supervisor of problems that could affect gardens; periodic self-supervision of work projects. Good communication skills; minimal contacts with other departments and the public requiring tact and judgment. Regular use of yard maintenance machinery. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Frequent walking, bending and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and moderate stooping and/or kneeling are required. Extensive field work in Sego Lily Gardens (90% of work is performed outside); frequent exposure to heat, cold and wet/humid conditions; frequent exposure to excessive environmental and/or physical hazards; requires some weekend, holiday and evening work; this is a heavily supervised position.
