About The Position
Self-Direction DSP - ClayArea (Job #SC-TD) We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate DSP to work with a young man in Clay, NY. As a DSP, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with special needs. Your role will involve working directly with clients and their families to ensure their well-being and promote their independence. The ideal applicant will take the client out into the community to increase his involvement in social activities, including but not limited to: The Zoo, Musicals and movies, going out to eat, going to the state parks in the summertime, going out for picnics, etc. The ideal staff will take initiative to assist the individual with finding social groups in the community, and assist him with identifying classes of interest such as art, music, or exercise classes.
Requirements
- Experience or knowledge in special education or caregiving is highly preferred
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for client transportation
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and strategies
- Experience in direct support or childcare roles is beneficial
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with special needs
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and care to individuals with special needs, including assisting with daily activities and personal care
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behavior
- Collaborate with clients Circle of Support to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Assist clients in developing essential life skills, such as communication, socialization, and self-care
- Provide transportation for clients to appointments, activities, or community outings
- Create a safe and supportive environment for clients, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being
