About The Position

The Senior Accountant will oversee core accounting operations within a construction‑focused environment. This individual will manage and lead all departmental functions, including billing, financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, and tax compliance. This role plays a critical part in strengthening internal controls, supporting financial planning, and driving process improvements across the accounting function. This position also offers a strong long‑term growth path, with the potential to develop into a Vice President–level leadership role for a high‑performing professional.

Requirements

  • Strong accounting knowledge across A/P, A/R, GL, taxes, and cost accounting
  • Ability to manage a three-person accounting department
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to implement process improvements
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Construction industry experience highly preferred
  • Experience with CHRO reporting and Prevailing Wage
  • Prior experience as an Accounting Supervisor or Manager
  • HR-related experience is a plus
  • Experience with accounting software and construction financial systems

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage general accounting functions including A/P, A/R, GL, and tax-related activities
  • Process daily customer invoicing and accounts payable invoices
  • Hire, train, develop, and retain accounting staff
  • Coach, counsel, evaluate, and monitor staff performance to ensure strong job results
  • Review and strengthen internal control systems and accounting processes
  • Contribute financial insights to support strategic planning and operational decisions
  • Implement productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve issues and support continuous improvement
  • Collect, interpret, and present financial data to management
  • Assess accounting operations and recommend/implement improvements
  • Prepare accurate and timely month-end financial statements
  • Maintain documented accounting policies and operational best practices
  • Oversee daily collections activity and maintain aging summaries and lien reporting
  • Supervise and support preparation and filing of monthly and quarterly sales tax returns
  • Assist with annual property tax assessments
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to close out monthly cost reports
  • Prepare documentation, schedules, and reports for year-end audit
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee petty cash management and monthly reconciliation
  • Provide backup support to Staff Accountant as needed
  • Perform additional related duties to support accounting and company goals
