About The Position

The Senior Accounting Manager provides operational and compliance management, serving as a bridge between strategic leadership and day-to-day transactional processes. Key responsibilities for this position include the following: 1) managing TERC’s accounting system to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data; 2) supporting project and operational fiscal management; and 3) supporting the CFO in financial reporting and analytics. Reporting to the CFO, acting with limited supervision and a high degree of collaboration with others, the Senior Accounting Manager manages or performs the following activities: Oversees A/P, A/R (including invoicing), and payroll. Supervises the AP Manager, and assists with vendors Review and approve AP purchase orders, expense reimbursements, and invoices Prepare grant drawdowns Reviews daily cash reports and cash flow projections, as well as ACH and wire transfers Assists in the management of monthly close, including journal entry preparation and reconciliations Supports year-end close processes for the annual fiscal audit Manages ERP systems including account creation, setup of allocations, oversight of project setup and revisions, and other system related modifications as needed Helps support the annual Uniform Guidance audit and related tax filings Supports CFO with financial report preparation for the President and the Board Ensures accurate documentation is maintained on Finance systems and processes, and that the documented systems and processes are followed Ensures accounting is compliant with GAAP and all funder regulations and requirements Support CFO, accounting team, and other TERC staff by organizing team-specific trainings and company-wide trainings on ERP system reporting, budgeting, and more Other duties as assigned by the CFO. This is a full-time/exempt position. TERC has a hybrid work environment, with freedom to work from home when not needed on-site, with 1-2 day in-office requirement. Interactions with Others: This position reports to the CFO and interacts with the accounting team and TERC staff to exchange information and negotiate solutions with clients and outside agencies. Works with the accounting team on day-to-day operations of the finance department.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting, or equivalent
  • Strong technical accounting background (GAAP/GASB)
  • Experience in nonprofit or grant-funded environments
  • Deep knowledge of AP and procure-to-pay one of the leading practices
  • Experience with AP automation and system transitions
  • Customer service orientation with vendors and internal teams
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Read, write, and understand English
  • Basic math skills
