Position Summary This position serves a dual role within the Commercial division, supporting both the Large Group Fully Insured Actuarial team for the Northeast region and Competitive Intelligence nationally. The primary market responsibilities focus on the New York and New Jersey markets, with occasional support extended to other Northeast markets as needed.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in an actuarial or analytical role.
  • Minimum 2 actuarial exams passed.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex actuarial functions and market-specific dynamics.
  • Ability to take full ownership of assignments and work independently with limited guidance.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and time management skills, along with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with large, detailed data sets, including proficiency in advanced Excel, SQL, and VBA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with market actuaries and business partners to optimize persistency and gross profit for the assigned region.
  • Work closely with multiple business functions—including Sales, Finance, Underwriting, Network, and Product—to develop best estimate and strategic rate actions, while ensuring pricing discipline.
  • Partner with Rate Review and Forecasting teams to integrate market-specific assumptions and dynamics into strategic planning.
  • Participate in centralized rate filing and implementation efforts.
  • Perform actuarial functions by leveraging advanced quantitative and analytical skills through experience studies and competitive intelligence analysis.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert in various data warehouses and represent the Actuarial perspective to business partners.
  • Support national Competitive Intelligence initiatives by developing and maintaining rate intelligence dashboards and summaries.
  • Provide national and regional competitive intelligence to the functional rate review team and other markets and regions to support informed decision-making on critical actuarial assumptions, including trend, pooling charges, and administrative expenses.
  • Provide ad hoc Competitive Intelligence on trends, pooling charges, risk scores, and other miscellaneous topics as required.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including non-technical individuals and senior management.
  • Streamline processes and identify opportunities to implement best practices for greater efficiency.
