About The Position

Maxar is seeking an experienced AI/ML researcher to work on the full stack of the AI/ML workflow, which includes acquiring and standardizing multi-modal data, designing and developing AI/ML models, testing and evaluating various processes of the AI/ML pipeline, developing and prototyping AI/ML applications, and understanding and implementing hardware computational platforms and solutions. The role involves contributing to multi-discipline AI/ML research teams using multi-INT data, with an emphasis on GEOINT, to design, create, implement, and rigorously evaluate machine learning approaches and relevant technologies. The work environment is relaxed business casual, and the company values social responsibility.

Requirements

  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI Polygraph.
  • B.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography or related field.
  • 7+ years designing, developing, testing, and deploying AI/ML models on a variety of data types.
  • 2+ years working with synthetic training data generation, low-shot learning, and robust ML.
  • 2+ years working with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and integrating AI/ML capabilities.
  • Experience with remote sensing, GEOINT datasets, and government collection platforms.
  • Ability to work with a geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to work onsite at Maxar’s Herndon office and surrounding area (20-mile radius).
  • Ability to travel locally (DC Capital Region) to government sites for customer meetings and demonstrations.
  • Effective communicator demonstrated through technical writing and speaking engagements.
  • Organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (M.S, Ph.D.) in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography, or related field.
  • Competence with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.).
  • Competence with Python’s geospatial libraries, such as gdal, geopandas, shapely, etc.
  • Competence with deep learning algorithms for image science (YOLO, SSD, DetectNet, etc.).
  • Competence with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Cloud Foundry, etc.).
  • Competence with Linux environment.
  • Competence with version control technologies such as Git, GitLab, etc.
  • Competence with designing and implementing compute hardware and infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience with communication hardware and signal processing.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to multi-discipline AI/ML research teams using multi-INT data (with emphasis on GEOINT).
  • Design, create, implement, and evaluate machine learning approaches and relevant technologies.
  • Data engineering to transform various data types to support various phases of the AI/ML workflow.
  • Architect and develop novel AI/ML models (e.g., computer vision, semantic activity detection) applied to government data.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate various edge-based AI/ML solutions including hardware and software stacks.
  • Keep abreast of recent AI/ML technical advances from industry and academia and apply them to customer mission problems.
  • Develop and maintain expertise on a broad spectrum of AI/ML domains such as computer vision, geospatial analytics/prediction, signal processing, and agentic approaches.
  • Provide strategic advice to government on various AI/ML industry and research trends.
  • Brief government clients, contractor partners, and internal Maxar teams on delivery progress, evaluation results, and project challenges.
  • Advise Maxar and the project manager on the strengths and weaknesses of various AI/ML approaches.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and mentoring to other team members.
  • Integrate and field a range of talents and personnel spanning the full landscape of data scientist skillsets.
  • Generate sprint-style projections and risk assessments for AI/ML deliveries.
  • Travel occasionally to local government sites for customer meetings and demonstrations.
