About The Position

New York Life’s Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) is seeking a high-caliber Senior Associate to join its Alternatives team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of private markets investing and insurance-based asset management, supporting the construction and stewardship of a large, long-duration institutional portfolio. The Senior Associate will play a meaningful role in sourcing, evaluating, and managing alternative investments designed to enhance the General Account’s long-term, risk-adjusted returns. The position is well suited for an analytically strong investment professional who is intellectually curious, highly collaborative, and motivated by long-term investing within a purpose-driven organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in an investment, financial analysis, or institutional asset management role
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including financial modeling and investment valuation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with comfort working in a dynamic environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in long-term investing within an insurance context

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward CFA or other relevant professional designation preferred
  • Prior exposure to alternative asset classes, private markets, or insurance-oriented investing is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting of new alternative investment opportunities across private equity, private credit, and structured solutions
  • Perform detailed financial analysis, scenario testing, and risk assessments
  • Prepare high-quality investment memoranda and supporting materials for senior leadership and investment committees
  • Partner with senior team members on idea generation and balance-sheet optimization, with a focus on capital efficiency and risk capacity
  • Assist in researching and evaluating fund managers, strategies, and emerging opportunities within the alternative asset landscape
  • Monitor market trends, relative value, and structural considerations relevant to insurance portfolios
  • Track performance and exposures of existing alternative investments
  • Support portfolio construction, allocation monitoring, and ongoing risk management
  • Prepare periodic performance, attribution, and market-context reporting
  • Help manage quarterly coverage and engagement cadence with internal stakeholders and external managers
  • Work closely with OCIO partners including Business Development, Portfolio Solutions, and Portfolio Management within a manager-of-managers framework
  • Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, Accounting, and Operations teams to support transaction execution, onboarding, and ongoing oversight
  • Develop clear, concise materials for internal stakeholders, including senior management and investment committees
  • Contribute to strategy discussions and ad-hoc analyses across the OCIO
  • Support planning and execution of new initiatives and enhancements to existing investment programs
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination across multiple workstreams
