Role Summary Join athenahealth as a Backend Senior Software Engineer based in Austin, TX, working in a hybrid environment that combines remote and on-site collaboration. You are an engineer who demonstrates design and engineering proficiency and has experience building full-stack web applications, preferably in public and private cloud environments. You are an excellent communicator and nimble learner who embraces the challenges and complexity of working in the healthcare space. This role reports to the Engineering Manager and plays a key role in advancing our software solutions. Team Summary We are building the next generation of EMR scheduling and practice management software designed to streamline and enhance the accuracy of scheduling processes for healthcare providers and their patients. This team focuses on building the next generation of EMR scheduling and practice management software designed to streamline and improve the accuracy of scheduling processes for healthcare providers and their patients. As part of this team, you will write code that continuously enhances these experiences for millions of patients, making a meaningful impact on healthcare delivery. You’ll be part of a full-stack team as a backend-focused developer and your job is to develop and support backend by highly performant and scalable APIs. The team follows industry best practices such as continuous delivery and iterative agile methodologies. We operate in two-week sprints and rapidly roll out features to subsets of customers to gather feedback and refine solutions as they mature. This approach ensures that our software evolves in alignment with user needs and business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Java, C#/.NET, and GraphQL
  • Ideally 4+ years of software engineering experience with product development expertise.
  • Experience with API-First design.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to write code that is technically sound, performant, scalable, and readable.
  • Experience creating test frameworks.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins along with git, bitbucket, etc.
  • Full-Stack experience or interest

Responsibilities

  • Write, debug, and deploy code to production; deliver timely fixes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software aligned with business requirements
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining coding standards and best practices
  • Adhere to DoD (story definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, bug fixes, documentation, and coding best practices.
