About The Position

Senior BI Developer- required onsite (hybrid) in Fairfax, VA Overview ILS Inc. is seeking a Senior BI Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable data integration and analytics solutions that support enterprise reporting and decision-making. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and cloud/platform teams to deliver reliable, high-quality data pipelines and curated analytics datasets across on-prem and cloud environments. This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence two days per week at our Fairfax, VA headquarters. MUST BE LOCAL TO DC METRO AREA (hybrid support - 2 days in ILS HQ office, located in Fairfax, VA 22033).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer supporting enterprise data and analytics solutions.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with SQL, with a focus on Oracle SQL (query tuning, joins, aggregations, analytic functions, and optimization).
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts, including normalization, indexing, constraints, and transactions.
  • Proven experience with data integration processes (ETL/ELT, source-to-target mapping, data validation, scheduling, and orchestration).
  • Practical, hands-on experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
  • Working knowledge of Oracle Analytics Services (OAS) or similar analytics and reporting platforms.
  • Exposure to AWS and/or Azure, with familiarity in cloud-based data architectures and services.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving data pipeline and performance issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud-native data services, including: AWS: S3, RDS/Aurora, Glue, Lambda, Athena, Redshift Azure: ADLS, Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts such as dimensional modeling and star/snowflake schemas.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python and/or Shell) for automation and operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices for data engineering, including version control (Git) and release management.
  • Experience with data governance, security, and compliance, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
  • Translate requirements into clear and actionable user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design wireframes and UI mockups to support application development using tools like Balsamiq, Figma, Adobe XD, or Axure.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, developers, testers, and product owners to refine and validate designs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and daily standups.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by creating test scenarios, coordinating test activities, and validating results.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure traceability of requirements throughout the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines supporting batch and near real-time data integration.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain Oracle SQL queries, procedures, and scripts for data movement, transformation, and reporting.
  • Implement and enhance ETL/ELT processes using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) or comparable data integration tools.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to translate requirements into data models, integration workflows, and scalable BI solutions.
  • Ensure data quality through validation checks, reconciliation processes, error handling, and proactive monitoring.
  • Support analytics and reporting initiatives by enabling curated datasets and supporting tools such as Oracle Analytics Services (OAS).
  • Partner with cloud and platform teams to deploy, operate, and optimize data solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Document data flows, transformations, lineage, and operational runbooks to support maintainability and governance.
  • Participate in code reviews, performance tuning, incident troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
