LillyIndianapolis, IN

About The Position

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world. Come build the cloud infrastructure that powers how we bring medicines to patients! Tech@Lilly is looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to serve as the technical lead within the Medicines Development (Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA), Global Scientific Communications (GSC) and Global Statistical Sciences (GSS)) portfolio. This is a hands-on-keyboard technical leadership role. You will design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure that underpins our statistical computing environments, AI/ML pipelines, regulatory technology platforms, and data engineering workloads. If you want to build and own the architecture of mission-critical cloud systems in a regulated, high-impact environment — and you’re looking for a role where your technical decisions directly shape how a Fortune 100 company operates — this is it.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure — including EKS/Kubernetes, EC2, S3, FSx, RDS, Lambda, VPC networking, IAM, CloudWatch, and multi-account/multi-region architectures. You’ve built and operated production systems at scale, not just completed certifications.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code expertise — Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK. You believe infrastructure should be version-controlled, peer-reviewed, and reproducible.
  • Production experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), service mesh, container security, and microservices architecture patterns.
  • Experience designing and building CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and automating infrastructure operations, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Experience with data platform infrastructure — Databricks, Spark, data lake/lakehouse architectures, or high-performance storage systems.
  • Strong security and compliance mindset — experience building infrastructure in regulated environments with audit trail requirements, encryption at rest and in transit, and identity/access management at scale.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership — experience setting engineering standards, leading development teams, mentoring engineers, conducting architecture reviews, and driving technical quality across a team. You lead by raising the bar, not by managing a backlog.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools and a commitment to using them to accelerate infrastructure delivery.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex infrastructure decisions to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across globally distributed teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field
  • 8 or more years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or site reliability engineering
  • 3 or more years in a technical lead capacity, owning architecture decisions and setting engineering direction for a team or platform

Responsibilities

  • Owning the cloud architecture for our technology portfolio — designing and implementing scalable, secure, cost-efficient infrastructure on AWS that supports statistical computing, regulatory submissions, AI/ML workloads, and clinical data pipelines — with a relentless focus on reliability, performance, and compliance.
  • Building and operating infrastructure for AI/ML pipelines — designing the compute, storage, and orchestration layers that support agentic AI workflows, model training and serving, and integration with enterprise platforms.
  • Implementing Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and platform automation — building reproducible, version-controlled infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployments. Automating operational tasks to reduce toil and improve system reliability.
  • Ensuring compliance and security by design — architecting systems that meet 21 CFR Part 11 audit trail requirements, GxP validation standards, data integrity controls, and Lilly cybersecurity policies from day one — not bolted on after the fact.
  • Leading development teams and serving as the technical authority and mentor — setting engineering standards, conducting architecture reviews, guiding technical decisions across the team and vendor partners, and elevating the cloud engineering capability of the broader organization. You will be the person the team looks to when infrastructure decisions get hard.

Benefits

  • Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).
