About The Position

The Senior Collector is responsible for overseeing the collection process with a focus on medical records management and appeals oversight. This role involves handling complex account issues, managing medical records for reimbursement purposes, and ensuring that appeals are submitted and resolved in a timely and efficient manner. The Senior Collector will also work closely with the Lead Collector to enhance collection processes and improve overall team performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of healthcare collections experience, with emphasis on appeals and medical records management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payor guidelines, including billing and collection procedures.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements related to medical records and appeals processes.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with billing software and systems, such as New Leaf/R2.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle complex cases and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • You must be able to pass a drug, background screen and be eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation, submission, and follow-up of appeals to payors, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Manage medical records associated with claims, ensuring proper documentation for reimbursement purposes.
  • Collaborate with the collections team to resolve escalated and complex accounts, identifying and addressing root causes of denials.
  • Monitor appeals performance and ensure that all deadlines are met, reporting on trends and outcomes to the Lead Collector.
  • Coordinate with intake, billing, and other departments to gather and verify necessary documentation for appeals.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide training and support to team members on appeals and medical records processes.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance collections workflows and outcomes.
  • Ensure all accounts are audited regularly to identify any missing or incomplete medical records that could impact payment.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, internal teams, and payors.
