About The Position

Are you a strategic property management leader ready to make a broader operational impact? Related Affordable is seeking a Senior Community Manager to oversee the performance, compliance, and day to day operations of our affordable housing communites in San Francisco, CA with regional travel to support portfolio initiatives, team development, and operational consistency across assigned sites. In this elevated leadership role, you will serve as both an operational expert and mentor to onsite teams, driving strong financial performance, regulatory compliance, and resident satisfaction. You will partner closely with regional leadership to implement best practices, support new initiatives, and help strengthen community operations across the portfolio. Your leadership will help create communities residents are proud to call home while supporting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of property management experience, with demonstrated leadership in affordable housing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of affordable housing programs such as Project Based Section 8, LIHTC, HUD, and related compliance requirements.
  • Strong financial management skills including budget development, variance analysis, and operational forecasting.
  • Experience with RealPage, OneSite, and JD Edwards (or similar property management software).
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence outcomes, and manage multiple priorities across locations.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for creating great living experiences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally as needed to support operational and leadership initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive issues professionally.
  • Demonstrates accountability and reliability by taking full ownership of projects and outcomes, prioritizing precision and attention to detail, and approaching challenges with grit, resilience, and proactive problem-solving, while continuously engaging in learning and development to enhance performance; fosters collaboration and a resident-centered environment, ensuring empathy, respect, and cross-functional success in all interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as COS, C3P, HCCP, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Experience overseeing large unit portfolios of 500 or more units is highly valued, demonstrating the ability to manage complex operations at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop on site teams, including hiring, training, performance management, and succession planning for office and maintenance staff.
  • Oversee leasing strategy, marketing efforts, recertifications, and administrative operations to maintain occupancy and compliance goals.
  • Manage property financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, rent collection, and delinquency oversight.
  • Travel periodically to support regional initiatives, provide operational guidance, assist with coverage needs, and participate in leadership meetings or portfolio projects.
  • Ensure full compliance with affordable housing programs including HDC, HCR, HUD, LIHTC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Strengthen resident relations by fostering positive engagement, addressing concerns professionally, and supporting conflict resolution when needed.
  • Partner with maintenance leadership to ensure preventative maintenance, capital improvements, and service standards are consistently met.
  • Analyze operational reports and KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support special projects, onboarding initiatives, and operational transitions that enhance portfolio performance.
