About The Position

The Louisiana State University Future Scholars (LSUFS) Program, housed in the Office of Pre-College Programs aims to remove barriers to college enrollment while providing the support and resources needed to complete high school and attend and graduate from Louisiana State University. Students that complete the program will be awarded a full tuition scholarship to Louisiana State University. The Senior Pre-College Program Coordinator plays a pivotal leadership role in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the LSUFS Program. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Pre-College Programs, this position provides strategic oversight, ensures program excellence, and mentors junior staff. The Senior Coordinator is responsible for high-level planning, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder engagement to advance the program’s mission and outcomes. This Senior Coordinator will be required to report to and help carry out the operation, vision, and values of the Office of Enrollment Management & Student Success. The Office of Pre-College Programs prioritizes the following: Access to support networks, resources, and higher education; Connecting students with mentors (LSU faculty, staff, and students) who can support, guide, and encourage them as they transition from secondary to post-secondary spaces; Helping students explore personal and academic values as well as career goals while engaging in social & civic engagement activities; Educating students and their families about college funding options, the college application process, and transition support; Preparing students to reach their full potential at the flagship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year experience.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and background check which includes a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report.
  • Must be willing to travel and work nights/weekends especially during peak periods.
  • This position and/or position’s responsibilities require work directly with minors. Fingerprinting and National Sex Offender Registry check required.
  • This position is donor-funded and is therefore contingent upon further availability of funding. Thus, if the funding agency (1) withdraws funds already promised or (2) cancels funding prior to the expiration date of this appointment, your employment will be subject to immediate termination.
  • The employee may be issued University-provided mobile devices to be used for business purposes only.
  • If one is issued, this position requires the employee to possess a personal cell phone.
  • As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience in education, human/youth development, sociology, social work, public policy, science, math, or related technical field
  • Certification and/or experience in an academic discipline, curriculum development or administration preferred, but not required
  • Experience working in a college admission setting or working with college-bound students, preferably in an admission and counseling environment
  • Our preferred candidate possesses the following qualities: Excellent organizational, public presentation, written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills and computer literacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision-making, including effective analytical skills and proven results in achieving objectives and goals
  • Knowledge of best practices in pre-college and/or college student transitions and experiences
  • Strong team orientation, effective interpersonal skills, and superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to holistically evaluate applications
  • Experience with CRM (Client Relations Management) system and demonstrated ability to leverage technology

Responsibilities

  • Caseload Management (30%) Provide learner support to undergraduate students, individually and on holistically on college matriculation topics, providing front line advocacy and support. This includes meeting with students one‑on‑one to discuss academic, personal, financial, and transitional challenges that may impact their progression, navigating campus processes and connecting them with appropriate campus resources (e.g., counseling, financial aid advisors, academic departments), and advocate on their behalf when barriers arise. Proactively handles logistics for incoming freshman and continuing students including coordination of admissions, matriculation efforts, registration and enrollment, financial aid and graduation concerns, all in close collaboration with individual Colleges, the Graduate School, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other applicable departments. Assists students with understanding their curriculum flowchart, interpret degree requirements, building a draft schedule, reviewing course options, and preparing questions for meetings with their assigned academic advisor. Engage in regular communication with assigned populations to provide updates and address concerns. Communicate important deadlines and policy issues to online students. Track the academic progress and overall well‑being of assigned student populations. When students are not progressing appropriately toward graduation, the senior coordinator will initiate outreach, identify challenges, develop success plans, connect students to campus resources, and maintain ongoing follow‑up to support improvement.
  • Programming (25%) Facilitate and support LSUFS site participants with networking, mentorship, and college readiness activities Assist the Assistant Director in development of student learning plans and monitoring student progress Serves as the contact for the summer college preparation residential program, in the absence of the assistant director This position will be required to live on campus for the duration of the summer program Oversee curriculum implementation in alignment with program goals and objectives Co-facilitate monthly Saturday programs
  • Recruitment of Students (20%) Collaborate with the LSUFS Assistant Director and school administrators/contacts to plan and coordinate recruitment activities and events Represents the university and LSUFS to the general public at recruitment events, including high school and college visits, college fairs, visits to schools and community-based organizations, receptions, interviews, information sessions, and presentations which may include lifting materials with a weight of 10 – 15 pounds. Support and foster relationships with the LSUFS Assistant Director, the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS), the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRSS), other LSUFS sites, partners, and other relevant agencies Support the ongoing relationships with relevant LSUFS sites and relevant partners and agencies Assists Assistant Director with creating any necessary deliverables and documents for marketing of the LSUFS Program
  • Evaluation & Management of Student Performance (20%) Coordinate and support LSUFS program objectives and oversee the success of scholar academic performance Conduct and evaluate assessments of LSUFS students Meet with students to ensure that they are meeting program requirements Foster a relationship with local school administrators to gather academic records of participating scholars including report cards, IEPS, transcripts, and other student performance metrics Oversee the scholar portal database (SLATE) and quarterly Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) completion to track academic performance of all student participants Provide quarterly academic reports to the Assistant Director to measure student academic progress
  • Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Other duties as assigned by the Director of Pre-College Programs and direct supervisor. This includes, but not limited to, efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including helping divisional initiatives such as Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Kick Off Events, Destination LSU, Pre-Scholars Academy, other special projects as needed.
