About The Position

As a Senior Credit Advisor, you are responsible for analyzing and assessing credit worthiness of existing and new national accounts. This individual will analyze merchant financials, assign credit ratings, and apply necessary credit enhancements. The position operates in a fast-paced environment and partners closely with internal stakeholders and external clients to deliver timely, well-supported outcomes aligned to credit policy.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of credit underwriting or credit risk experience, ideally including commercial/merchant/national accounts.
  • Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related experience
  • Strong financial analysis skills (spread analysis, cash flow assessment, ratio and trend analysis).
  • Experience assigning risk ratings and documenting credit decisions in a credit memo/underwriting narrative format.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present risk recommendations to senior stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in payments/merchant acquiring, card acceptance, or related financial services risk.
  • Familiarity with credit enhancements and risk mitigation structures used in merchant or commercial underwriting.
  • Comfort working with multiple systems and managing competing priorities under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and existing national merchant accounts by analyzing financial statements, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, and overall creditworthiness.
  • Assess merchant requests (e.g., new approvals, exposure increases, contract changes) and document clear, defensible credit recommendations.
  • Assign internal credit risk ratings and determine appropriate credit enhancements/mitigants (e.g., reserves, guarantees, covenants, deposits, limits).
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of partner credit policies and procedures; ensure decisions and documentation align with established standards.
  • Document policy exceptions and route approvals through proper governance channels.
  • Review underwriting packages for completeness and accuracy; identify documentation gaps and drive resolution prior to approval/boarding.
  • Engage in high-level discussions with internal partners (sales, relationship management, operations) and external clients to clarify financials, risk drivers, and conditions of approval.
  • Deliver efficient, timely service while balancing risk discipline, partner needs, and customer experience.
  • Support portfolio monitoring activities as assigned (e.g., periodic reviews, adverse news/financial triggers, exposure reporting).
