GovCIO is currently hiring a highly skilled Senior Data Center Operations Engineer to manage and optimize mission-critical data center operations for the U.S. Coast Guard. The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. Requirements

  • High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
  • Clearance Required: Secret
  • Light knowledge of UPS systems, power distribution, and electrical safety standards.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Proficiency in copper and fiber optic cabling setup, termination and testing.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in demanding environments.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends and on-call rotations.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, cabling standards).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or other federal agencies.
  • Expertise with environmental monitoring tools and DCIM platforms.
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow or Remedy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of data center operations, ensuring high availability, reliability, and compliance with federal standards.
  • Implement proactive monitoring strategies, analyze performance trends, and mitigate risks before they impact mission-critical systems.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex hardware installations, structured cabling, and power systems; validate designs and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Develop and refine operational procedures, introduce automation tools, and champion efficiency improvements across the facility.
  • Enforce strict access control measures, lead audits, and ensure compliance with federal security and safety protocols.
  • Direct outage recovery efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Forecast resource needs, manage equipment lifecycle, and ensure scalability for future mission requirements.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of equipment status, maintenance activities, and configuration changes within DCIM systems.
